A former town with buildings on a different scale
Gràcia was an independent municipality until it was annexed to Barcelona in 1897, and it keeps its narrow streets, squares and low-rise buildings. So besides the front door, it is worth checking windows and street-level access points.
Upgrading an old door without replacing it
An old wooden door can still do its job if the leaf and frame are sound. Depending on the case, a modern cylinder, a security shield or a compatible additional lock can be considered. If the wood around the lock is weakened, upgrading the cylinder alone does not make the door more secure, and the support has to be assessed first. More on security shields.

Ground floors and street-facing windows
Ground-floor windows and those facing interior courtyards are access points worth assessing separately from the door. Bars and closures are chosen according to the opening, the façade and the building's rules. If the window is used for ventilation or as an exit, the solution must open from inside. During the August Festa Major
In 2025, from 15 to 21 August between 21:00 and 05:00, much of the Vila was closed to traffic, with access for residents and authorised vehicles. If you call us on those days, tell us whether your street is decorated or closed: it helps us plan how to get there. The district publishes the restrictions every year on the Festa Major de Gràcia website (in Spanish).
